Overview

Located in the heart of Bologna at V. Augusto Righi, Il Piatto Rotto offers an authentic taste of traditional Emilia-Romagna cuisine. This intimate restaurant invites diners to experience the essence of Bolognese culinary heritage through carefully crafted dishes that highlight local flavors and time-honored recipes.

The main attractions on the menu include the iconic Tagliatelle al Ragù Bolognese, a dish that perfectly captures the soul of Bologna with its slow-cooked meat sauce and fresh ribbons of pasta. Complementing this is the Il Tortellino Ripieno Di Carne, a delicate stuffed pasta that showcases the skill and passion behind the kitchen’s creations. For those seeking a comforting bake, the Gnocchetti Al Forno presents a tender, cheesy delight that balances rustic charm with refined taste.

Cheese lovers will find joy in the Piatto Misto Di Formaggi, a curated mixed cheese selection that pairs wonderfully with the regional wines on offer. For a richer experience, the Braciola Di Cinghiale and the Romagnola Beef Tartare deliver bold, robust flavors that speak to the local game meat and culinary tradition. Sweet endings like Torta Tenerina al Cioccolato and classic Tiramisu finish the meal with gentle indulgence.

The atmosphere of Il Piatto Rotto mirrors the warmth of its menu — cozy yet lively, with an interior that embraces traditional Italian design softened by modern touches. The space encourages a connection between guests and staff, fostering an experience that feels personal and welcoming. Attentive service enhances the dining journey, making patrons feel valued as they savor each bite.

Il Piatto Rotto is tailored to those who appreciate genuine regional cuisine in an authentic setting. Whether you’re a local seeking familiar favorites or a visitor eager to explore Bologna’s food culture, this restaurant promises a memorable meal grounded in simplicity, quality, and tradition.

If you’re looking for a traditional Bolo meal II Piatto Rotto is the place. One of the best beef tartares I’ve ever tasted, the tagliatelle with ragu of Bologna was amazing, same for the Lasagna verde. The food is so simple and delicious. You won’t regret giving them a try.

One of the best restaurant in Italy. Everything was perfect and the staffs were so nice. Their homemade tagliatelle and tortellini are really good.

Really really lovely meal. The staff were attentive and amusing, and kept us supplied with little extras. We initially went there for aperitivi and they also provided some delicious bruschetta and some very tasty little bowls of barley I think, along with some super tasty Albana Secca and sparkling chilled red (yes!). We then went round the block and came back here and had a superb few glasses of different wine and shared a pasta, main and side (caponata), all delicious. I tried an amazing Amarone Barricata Grappa and they gave my wife an amaretto. So friendly. Big tip!

In general the place is very-very good and for sure recommended for visiting. In details: food - everything what I’ve tried was very tasty and good served. Wine - choice is quite good, but variety “by glass” should be more extended for a place called “wine bar” :) Please add Franciacorta and let people know that Italy is not only a country of Prosecco in the big world of sparkling wine ;) Atmosphere - is really nice especially inside the restaurant: good design, pleasant music (not always relaxing, but in most cases , yes, relaxing ;) Sometimes there are too much noise from restaurant staff, but this is something what is easy to fix ;). Food serving - is very good, the only drawback that plates sometimes are chipped :) Service is very friendly and quick :) thanks for hospitality. For me it was a great pleasure to enjoy a good food and wine today :)

Huge huge recommendation. We ended up there by a bit of a coincidence, as our 1st priority didn't have a table available. So good that we have now also booked a table for New Year's Eve.

I highly recommend this restaurant in Bologna which provides amazing pasta. Needless to say, the tartare stood out and the typical Friggione Bolognese sauce was incredible as an appetizer.

Delicious pasta and great service. We were not very hungry, but we wanted to taste the tagliatelle, so they were very nice to suggest to split in 2 plates. This photo is half of the dish. The pasta is really delicious and tasty. When in Bologna again, I’ll definitely come back. PS: the Parmesan mousse is also very good, but the pasta is 10/10!
